Invitation : Invitation to Presentation of Updated Study on the Economic Impacts of the CSDDD

Brussels, 23rd September 2025

  • European Parliament Committee on Employment and Social Affairs

Dear Members of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee,

On behalf of ETUC, CIDSE, Ver.di, Misereor, FIAN, ETUI and Arbeiterkammer Wien, we are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the upcoming joint publication authored by Professor Johannes Jäger (Austria).

This new study presents updated research on the expected positive economic impacts of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), both within the European Union and in the Global South. It follows Professor Jäger’s widely cited 2023 analysis, which challenged narratives centered on alleged negative economic consequences of the directive.

The 2024 edition integrates empirical evidence from the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG) and the French Loi de Vigilance, offering concrete examples from company and country-level experiences. It also critically engages with the European Commission’s competitiveness narrative and assesses the risks posed by the Omnibus I Package, the Council’s General Approach, and the Warborn Report, which may significantly undermine the directive’s scope and effectiveness.
