Dear Marylise and Laurent,
On behalf of the whole European Trade Union Confederation and all its members, I would also like to congratulate Marylise on her election as new General Secretary of the CFDT.
I want to give you all our best wishes for success in leading the CFDT in the years ahead.
I know that, with your substantial experience in social dialogue, expertise on the environment and record of fighting for women’s rights, you will make a huge contribution to the progress of the labour movement in France and Europe.
Speech OPZZ 35th Anniversary Gala
A warm thank you for inviting me to this important anniversary in the history of OPZZ.
I take this opportunity to extend to you the congratulations of the whole ETUC.
OPZZ is an important member of the ETUC, and the European movement has benefited enormously from the input of your trade union.
Since Poland joined the European Union, you have made sure that the voice of workers from Central and Eastern European member states was well heard in the trade union movement.
Commenting on the attack in Turku (Finland), Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the European trade Union Confederation (ETUC) said:
"We condemn the terrorist attack in Turku which came only a day after the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils. The European trade union movement stands in solidarity with the people of Finland and our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and loved ones. We salute the emergency workers dealing with this senseless attack. We reiterate our strong commitment to peace, justice, tolerance, and democracy. We must not be intimidated."
The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) condemns the terrorist attacks that took place on Thursday, 17 August, on La Rambla de Barcelona - one of the most popular and visited streets in Europe at this year time – and in Cambrils.
We express our solidarity to the victims and relatives, people of Barcelona and Spain as well as our Spanish trade union members.
The ETUC stands with all workers of security forces, transport, social and health services which have attended to the victims of these cruel attacks with professionalism and care.
Two years after its last congress, and two years before the next one, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is holding its Mid-Term Conference in Rome in May. The conference will focus on Europe for working people - the future the European trade union movement wants to build for European workers and their families.
