Workers participation rights must be ensured in the European Private Company

Brussels, 25/06/2008

Reiner Hoffman, Deputy General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) declared: “The ETUC does not fundamentally reject the European Private Company statute. However, we have doubts whether the statute is meaningful and necessary in the form presented by the European Commission.
We are very concerned about the participation rights of workers in a European Private Company. The particular danger we see is if a firm simply moves its mailbox, the seat of the company will be moved abroad in order to escape from workers participation rights. We will not accept such evasion from worker participation. We have made this point loud and clear to the European Commission”.
