Brussels, 30/05/2008

The report's author, Jan Andersson, made a series of proposals that move in the right direction. MEPs of different political persuasions have stressed the need for legislators to react to the recent judgements in the European Court of Justice (ECJ): the Laval, Viking, Rüffert cases.

Said ETUC General Secretary John Monks: “I welcome the fact that the European Parliament is launching a debate on how to protect social Europe against the devastating impact of decisions that favour social dumping and threaten, at the same time, the foundations of the European social model, industrial relations and fundamental rights including trade union rights. The ETUC and its affiliates have been very active on the Laval case, among others, and are looking for measures to rectify the recent rulings by the ECJ.
