ETUC conveys its condolences for the tragic loss of 15-year-old, victim of the police violence in Turkey - Turkish Government must halt its violent response to opposition

Berkin Elvan died on March 11 after 269 days in coma as a result of being hit by a tear-gas canister when he was on his way to buy some bread during anti-Government protests in June 2013.

The ETUC supports the mourning demonstrations which took place all over the country and condemns the repression and dispersion of many of these rallies.

The ETUC reaffirms its position taken in light of the Taksim square demonstrations and on many other occasions, calling on the Turkish Government to respect fundamental international rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The ETUC is with those who are fighting for the respect of democratic social and trade union rights and against totalitarianism and repression in Turkey.
