Marylise Léon re-elected as CFDT reaffirms its commitment to social justice and democratic values

The ETUC warmly congratulates Marylise Léon on her re-election as General Secretary of the CFDT and salutes the outstanding record of the confederation over the past four years.

Under Léon's leadership, the CFDT has stood up for workers across all sectors: precarious workers, public servants, employees of small businesses, and the self-employed alike.

The ETUC particularly welcomes the CFDT's unambiguous stance against the far-right. Léon's clear message to congress, that there can be no compromise with those who seek to divide workers against one another, is one the entire European trade union movement can stand behind.

The ETUC extends its congratulations to the entire newly elected leadership and looks forward to working closely with the CFDT on the shared priorities set out in its new programme. The CFDT's calls for a European directive on AI and algorithmic systems in the workplace, guaranteeing transparency, human oversight and workers' right to challenge automated decisions, are a direct echo of the ETUC's Quality Jobs Act demands.

On the European Commission’s “EU Inc” proposal, the CFDT's insistence that workers be represented at board level and that companies not be permitted to use registration in other jurisdictions to escape collective bargaining obligations, illustrates the trade union movement’s fundamental opposition to the current text.
