ETUC stands with Ukrainian workers four years after Russia’s invasion

The ETUC has paid tribute to Ukrainian workers for keeping their country running under bombardment and vowed to support them in building a free and fair country.

Ukrainian trade unions FPU and KVPU held an international trade union solidarity meeting online on 26 February to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full scale invasion.

In her message to the event, ETUC General Secretary Esther Lynch said: “On behalf of the whole ETUC family, I want to say clearly: we don’t just stand with Ukraine - we stand with you, the people who keep the country running despite hardship and destruction.”

Since the illegal invasion, the ETUC and it's national affiliates have supported unions in Ukraine with practical measures on the ground.

The ETUC is also coordinating support for Ukrainian unions in upholding workers’ rights during this difficult time, with a view to ensuring that Ukrainian membership of the EU delivers a real advance in living standards for working people.

“The road ahead may be long and hard, but you are not walking it alone,” added Lynch. “The ETUC will be by your side, from the factory floor to the halls of power in Brussels. Together, we will build a Ukraine that is not just free and sovereign, but fair and just for every single worker.”
