CONSEQUENCE OF THE IMPOSED AUSTERITY

Europe 7 December: ArcelorMittal Action Day - EMF

"The stop and go policy pursued by the company for the sole purpose of maintaining prices is detrimental to plant equipment, key competences and know-how."

"The number of jobs cut by ArcelorMittal since 2006 is now over 30,000"

Call for mobilisation in protest against the plant closures, disastrous restructuring plans and unjustified job cuts.

Action Day organised by: EMF

{{THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES }}

"Although it is logical for a company to try and make profits, we do not believe that it is logical for ArcelorMittal to behave like a merchant banker rather than a steel producer."

ArcelorMittal should respect its commitments in terms of maintaining sites, investments and the devlopment of competence and human capital."

We need different policies

•  Development of an industrial project geared to the future, based on innovation, the development of know-how and R&D to develop the steels of tomorrow;

•  Elaboration of an ambitious policy aimed at maintaining and further developing competence and human capital;

•  Full compliance with the commitments and agreements made since the merger in 2006;

•  Full respect for information and consultation rights at national and European level, especially as regards genuinely taking into account the alternative solutions proposed by the employee representatives with a view to maintaining sites;

•  Utilisation of slack production periods to invest in training for employees, plant equipment renovation and modernisation.

The ETUC expresses its solidarity and full support with the day of action
