Joint trade union position on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement - An appeal by Indonesian and European Trade Unions

Ahead of the forthcoming negotiating round with Indonesia, and given the increased commitments of the EU to Sustainable Development provisions within FTAs, the spotlight remains on Indonesia’s poor track record on labour rights.

This is even more important since recent legislative changes have moved the country away from ILO fundamental Conventions. Central in this move is the highly controversial Omnibus Law, Act 11 of 2020 on Job Creation Act. This law significantly decreases labour rights protections in the country and undermines working conditions, contrary to both the letter and spirit of fundamental international labour standards.

The ETUC and trade union in Indonesia call upon the European Commission to ensure trade partners respect these standards.
