ETUC Statement of solidarity with Spain
Adopted at the Executive Committee meeting of 10-11 March 2026
The European Trade Union Confederation stands behind Spain and all Member States against threats of economic coercion.
We reject in the strongest manner the threats made by Trump and the US administration against Spain and the Spanish government for its statements and actions in defence of international law.
The ETUC expresses its full solidarity and support for Spain and the Spanish government, and we call on the European Union to stand united against external threats, including economic coercion and trade threats.
The EU must respond in a firm, proportionate and united manner. Where necessary, it must be ready to deploy its full range of trade defence instruments, including the Anti-Coercion Instrument, to protect all EU Member States, including Spain, workers and industries from unfair or politically motivated trade measures.
Trade unions reiterate that lasting peace, respect for international law and social justice are essential foundations for stability and prosperity at home and abroad.
