* : Vote AGAINST proposal on Omnibus I in JURI Committee on 13 Oct.
Brussels , 10th October 2025
- To the Members of the JURI Committee
- To MEPs
Dear Member of the JURI Committee,
Dear Members of the European Parliament,
The latest developments on the CS3D – Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive- in the European Parliament reached a breaking point on Wednesday, which not only will dismantle the EU's flagship CS3D initiative, but will also undermine the European Union's social and climate agenda, as well as the democratic legal fabric. Such developments will definitively damage public trust in European institutions.
Already, the Commission tabled unilaterally changes that weaken core elements of corporate accountability directive, democratically adopted in 2024. The text tabled by the EPP Rapporteur Warbon further empties the text of its substance compared to the CS3D. Compromises that would have provided the necessary guarantees for workers, citizens and the planet should have been taken into account. They have been ignored.
The text of the EPP rapporteur, Mr Warbon, falls far short of providing the necessary protection for workers in supply chains and betrays the letter and spirit of the CS3D. This is why the ETUC is calling for a VOTE AGAINST next Monday in the JURI Committee.
As a reminder, the ETUC, together with its affiliates, have always actively been in support of the initiative and managed to convince the legislator in 2024 to adopt a Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. This directive delivers for workers, who need dedicated protection from the deterrent impact of business operations in particular in their supply chains. This directive prevents from labour exploitation and gives access to the trade union to the supply chains to defend workers against human rights violations. This is what the European Union is expected to deliver.
Best regards,
Isabelle Schömann
ETUC Deputy General Secretary
