An informal European Summit on growth will be held on 23 May. European leaders have come to realise that austerity is an economic and political dead-end. Recently, growth has become the priority of European debates and the recent elections in Europe have certainly helped to bring about a change in positions.
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH APERITIF RATHER THAN A DEREGULATION DINNER
We do not all have the same definition of growth. For the ETUC, sustainable growth must be based on investments and active labour market policies, not on structural reforms, which is just another term for more deregulation.
On the occasion of the European Summit on 23 May, the ETUC will be organising a rally in the Schuman area of Brussels at 5 pm in order to present our position on this issue.
