ETUC values Commission's efforts to respect main provisions of the European Parliament's compromise on the Services Directive

Bussels, 04/04/2006

The ETUC, the European Parliament and the European Council had, on numerous occasions, warned the Commission against backtracking and urged it to accept Parliament's compromise - a basis for early adoption of a Services Directive which would also respect the social dimension of the Internal Market.

John Monks, General Secretary of the ETUC, commented: “We appreciate the fact that the Commission has respected its commitment, although we will need to check the various changes in more detail. At first sight, some amendments appear incomplete, confusing or even inaccurate. The ETUC will ask the Council to examine these points closely.
