Brussels, 15/11/2011 The forthcoming European Council, to be held on 24-25 March, will endorse such proposals designed to exert downward pressure on wages, by limiting pay increases to productivity and implicitly barring wages from reflecting increases in prices. Such policy will systematically redistribute income from wages to profits, dividends and bonuses. If this approach is confirmed, the whole concept of social Europe is being placed in increasing jeopardy. For these reasons, trade union mobilisations are planned in Europe.

Meeting the target of 75% of employment rate by 2020 requires taking into account persons with disabilities, who represent 15% of the working population of the EU. The framework agreement for the inclusive labour markets, signed by the European social partners on 25 March 2010, resulted to be a key instrument to achieve the targets of the EU 2020 Strategy.

Brussels, 10/03/2011 The ETUC is strongly opposed to the way the concept of EU economic governance is being developed and to the current proposals on the so-called “Competitiveness Pact”. European trade union movement finds it totally unfair that working people are paying for the follies of financial markets. The current proposals are to exert downward pressure on wages, to interfere in collective bargaining and the autonomy of the social partners. If this approach is confirmed, the whole concept of social Europe is being placed in increasing jeopardy.
