Deputy General Secretary

Per Hilmersson was elected ETUC Deputy General Secretary at the Vienna Congress in May 2019. He has worked in EU affairs, mainly on trade union related issues, for almost 19 years. Most of that time he worked in Brussels for the Swedish Trade Union Confederations, the Party of European Socialists, the European Commission and the European Parliament.  At the ETUC, Per handles a range of issues including employment, fair mobility and posting of workers, regional policy, economic and social cohesion, health and safety, international trade and action to secure a Social Progress Protocol. His previous position was International Director of the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees (TCO). As a member of the TCO leadership team, Per headed the department handling EU & Legal Affairs and was responsible for drafting and implementing strategies relating to TCO’s EU, international and labour rights policies, activities and relations. He sat on the board of the Brussels Office of the Swedish Trade Unions, acted as chair of the board of the Swedish EU news site and been a member of the Advisory Board to the Swedish Institute of European Policy Studies (SIEPS).
