The ETUC supports the creation of a European internal market, with the potential to boost growth, employment and value for consumers. However it must go hand in hand with workers’ rights and social protection. The ETUC demands a strong regulatory framework for the supply of services of general interest, which are crucial to the public good and, therefore, must not be subject only to market forces.
The ETUC and its trade union affiliates are campaigning to ensure that liberalisation of the EU market for services does not lead to a serious attack on labour rights and working conditions.
