European Company (SE)
European Companies (SE) and Cooperative Societies (SCE) built a cornerstone in workers’ involvement at transnational level.
The SE Directive ( Directive 2001/86/EC) linked to the SE statute ( Regulation EC 2157/2001) has introduced for the first time participation ’s rights for workers at board level. Negotiations must also be carried out with a view to establish information and consultation procedure through the establisment of a SE works council.
The SE is made as an option for companies to operate their businesses on a cross-border basis in Europe under the same corporate regime.
In 2009, more than 700.000 employees of SEs have the right to be represented at board level. Mid 2009, at least 100 genuine SEs have been set up .
