The ETUC confirms its willingness to negotiate an ambitious reform of the Working Time Directive
At the meeting of its Executive Committee on 28 June 2011, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) confirmed that it is ready to negotiate on working time.
The ETUC Executive Committee reaffirms the go ahead that it gave last March for the negotiations, based on an ambitious revision of the Directive, encompassing all the sensitive issues. The ETUC insists on the need to respect the objectives of workers’ health and safety and seeks a balanced approach.
Patrick Itschert, ETUC Deputy General Secretary, stated a “readiness to negotiate”, while stressing that “the revision must cover all the points which are causing problems”. “The ETUC will therefore quickly ensure that there are genuine prospects for negotiation”. The Executive Committee has also launched its internal reflection into the 2012-2014 work programme for the European social partners.
