The ETUC backs Turk-Sen’s mobilisation for protection of trade union rights

Today, the TURK-SEN, member of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Cyprus, protests against the reforms proposed by the Government in Ankara, aimed at jeopardising collective bargaining and the right to strike. This mobilisation marks the follow-up of the massive General Strike which took place last month, involving about 30.000 workers.

The reforms proposed by the Government in Ankara not only restrict trade unions’ rights, but also cut wage and pensions, privatise public institutions and impose several anti-workers policies. The European trade union movement fully supports the action organised today by TURK-SEN.

The workers’ voice must be heard and the workers’ rights must be respected. I wish all the success in your continuing fight for decent work and decent life for all” said John Monks, General Secretary of the ETUC.
