ETUC Executive Committee: European Trade Unions meet in Brussels

The Executive Committee [1] of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is meeting on 13 and 14 October, two weeks after the European Trade Union Day of Action that brought hundreds of thousands of workers into the streets across Europe.

The ETUC member organisations, meeting in the framework of the ETUC Executive Committee, will discuss the next steps in their action to put up a common front against austerity measures. ETUC General Secretary John Monks announced on 29 September that "this is just the beginning of the struggle, not the end".

Other subjects will also be on the agenda: economic and social governance, migration, the ETUC’s response to the European Commission’s Green Paper on pensions, climate change and its consequences on employment in advance of next December’s Cancun summit and the question of workers’ rights in the framework of the European labour market.

[1] The ETUC Executive Committee meets four times a year. All the ETUC member organisations are represented in the Executive Committee, which adopts positions to be defended collectively.
