Euro-demonstration 29 September 2010 : "No to austerity – Priority for jobs and growth! "

The European Trade Union Confederation is staging a European Day of Action on 29 September next. This Day of Action follows a decision by the ETUC Executive Committee on 1 and 2 June. It will be made up of a Euro-demonstration in Brussels and trade union actions in the various European countries. The Euro-demonstration in Brussels will be composed of fifty Trade Unions member organisations representing 30 countries. The European trade unions will be demonstrating against the austerity measures adopted recently by many European countries, and to demand recovery plans in favour of quality jobs and growth. The Euro-demonstration is under preparation. The information given on this page will be updated progressively.

After the demonstration, a ETUC delegation will meet the European Commission President Mr Barroso and the current President of the EU Council Mr Leterme.

The Euro-demonstration will take place on 29 September in Brussels. It will start at 1 pm at the gare du Midi.

Information to the press for the European Day of Action on 29 September 2010



Meetings with trade union leaders on the day of the Euro-demonstration: journalists are invited to meet and interview European trade union leaders on 29 September at 11.00 a.m., at the premises of the CGSLB, Boulevard Poincaré 72-74, 1070 Brussels (near the South (Midi) train station and the starting point of the Euro-demonstration). The press will also be allowed to take up a position in front of the lead formation in order to take photos and conduct interviews. If you wish to interview a trade union leader who will not be on hand in Brussels, we will send you the name of his/her press officer so that you can contact the individual directly.

Press conference: a press conference will be held just before the start of the Euro-demonstration in Brussels, at 12 noon, at the premises of the CGSLB, Boulevard Poincaré 72-74, 1070 Brussels. We have sent out this invitation to a large number of people. If you have not received it, please contact us. Actions in the various European countries

- General strike: The Spanish affiliates of the ETUC will be holding a general strike on 29 September.
- Demonstrations: Besides the Euro-demonstration in Brussels and the general strike in Spain, demonstrations will also take place on 29 September in Portugal, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Serbia, Romania, Poland ,Ireland and France.
