In a victory for the unions, 1 May is made a public holiday in Turkey
The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) welcomes the decision by the Turkish government to recognise the celebration of Labour Day on 1 May by declaring it a public holiday. ETUC salutes this major victory for the trade unions.
To mark its solidarity with its Turkish affiliates, ETUC is supporting the various demonstrations that will take place in Turkey on 1 May and calls on the Turkish government to respect the right to demonstrate on Labour Day and to make sure that there is no repetition of last year’s incidents.
