The financial crisis and the European Employment Strategy
On 5 and 6 March, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) organises a conference on the financial crisis and the European employment guidelines under the framework of the renewed Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs.
The economic crisis is, as each crisis, a driver for change. Given the current context of recession sweeping into Europe, it is high time to examine and reflect on the European Employment Strategy under the framework of the renewed Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs.
The ETUC conference on ‘The financial crisis and the European Employment Strategy’ will focus on the following three aspects with regard to the recession and employment:
State of play
Assessment and prospects
European employer organisations’ approach
This conference brings together trade unionists, employers, researchers, economists and politicians. In the afternoon of 5 March 2009, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimír Špidla, will be present.
