Economic crisis and Commission’s recovery plan on the agenda of ETUC Executive Committee

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) Executive Committee meets in Brussels on 3 and 4 December 2008, with a full agenda on issues affecting European workers. With the split widening over the European recovery plan, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will address the ETUC Executive Committee on Wednesday, 3 December.

A top priority for debate is the trade union reaction to the Commission’s proposals for an economic recovery plan, which is set to be adopted, if in modified form, by EU heads of state and government at next week’s European summit.

Trade union leaders will also discuss the follow-up of the salary campaign, with a focus on defining collective bargaining guidelines for 2009 in light of a prolonged European depression.

Another important topic on the agenda includes ETUC actions and activities on promoting equal rights, respect and dignity for workers regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
