ETUC supports Euromil in its campaign for a new deal

Opening the conference of Euromil, the trade union for members of the armed forces in Europe, John Monks, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) called for a comprehensive package of rights for the military and their families.

John Monks declared: ‘Some 90 years after the end of the First World War in which millions of combatants died in the trenches of Europe, members of the armed services are still getting a raw deal.

He added that ‘the war in Afghanistan is showing that the armed forces are still fighting without the best equipment and without the best medical care in the event of woundings and injury. Compensation packages do not in many instances match those of people injured at work, and pay and conditions are well below those in civilian services such as the police’.

ETUC supports Euromil in its campaign for an agreement with improved provisions instead of such a raw deal.

The military serve us all and are called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. We must support them to the maximum extent possible’, highlighted John Monks.
