On the offensive for stronger European Works Councils

On 1 May 2008, the ETUC launched a campaign for stronger European Works Councils (EWCs ). The ETUC has long been calling for revision of the EWC directive, but recently refused to enter into negotiations with BusinessEurope in the framework of the social dialogue because we believed it was not feasible to reach agreement in time for the issue to be dealt with in the lifetime of the current Commission and Parliament.

ETUC Deputy General Secretary Reiner Hoffmann launched the campaign in an interview in the ETUC’s April newsletter.
