EUROPEAN ACTION DAYS 2nd - 3rd OF APRIL 2004The European Trade Union (ETUC) calls on its affiliates in Brussels and other European countries to protect the European social model

On 2nd -3rd of April, thousands of workers will demonstrate in European cities to call for a stronger Social Europe and an engagement from the different Governments for more justice and social cohesion.

Because the dismantling of the social acquis has to stop, the European Trade Union Confederation called in December 2003 for “European action days ” to promote employment, the defence of social rights and high quality public services.

In Brussels, the ETUC and its Belgian affiliates (CSC, FGTB, CGSLB) have agreed to gather together a “mass delegation of European trade unionists” in the centre of the European quarters on the 2nd of April. Delegations of ETUC affiliates will also participate at this event. (For More information please visit the web site, address below).

The European trade unions will also mobilise in various German, French ,Italian and English cities etc. to express their concerns about the general deterioration of the social climate and the threats made to social rights.

The European action day is an occasion for the European trade union movement to allow its voice to be heard on social claims on the eve of the adoption of the Constitutional Treaty and the enlargement of Europe to 25 countries.
