During an interview at the RTBF * on the draft Directive on services in the internal market, Mr. Jonathan Todd, the spokesman of Mr. Bolkestein (Internal Market Commissioner), made some scandalous comments about the Belgian trade unions, comparing their publications to the "trash" distributed by the National Front in Brussels’ letter boxes."It is utterly unacceptable for the office of Mr. Bolkestein’s spokesman to make such a mix-up. Workers who fight for the defense of their fundamental rights can in no way whatsoever be compared to fascist activists. This is simply scandalous", declared John Monks, General Secretary of ETUC in reaction to these offensive remarks.
