“Positive Developments in Social Europe are essential to provide a popular base for Europe”, said John Monks at the UGT-P Conference in Lisbon
Speaking in Lisbon, where he was attending a UGT-P (União Geral de Trabalhadores) Conference at which Mr. José Manuel Barroso was also speaking, John Monks, General Secretary of the ETUC, said that “Positive Developments in Social Europe are essential to provide a popular base for Europe”.
“Indeed without a continuing lively social dimension, the task of seeking popular approval for the new European Constitution will be more difficult”. He congratulated José Manuel Barroso on a good start but urged him to stress the importance of a strong social dimension.
