The ETUC’s trade union recruitment campaign

Since the ETUC Congress in Prague (2003), the ETUC’s affiliate organisations have shown their desire to carry out activities to promote trade union recruitment under the umbrella of ’Strengthening the ETUC and European trade union identity’. In this context, the 2003-2007 Action Programme urged the ETUC to ’support trade union recruitment strategies, especially amongst underrepresented groups and young workers, who are the future of all trade unions’. At the ETUC summer school in Florence in 2005, European trade union leaders renewed this commitment, and shared their concerns and expectations. The ETUC has therefore decided to launch a campaign for European trade union recruitment, which will include two seminars, as well as printed and audiovisual campaign materials. This topic will also be one of the major themes of a conference that the ETUC plans to organise in 2009.
