Young European social partners meet for the first time

On 2-3 February 2007, some 70 young trade unionists from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and employers from ’YES for Europe’ gathered for a joint conference entitled ’Young European social partners: challenges and perspectives’.

The conference aimed to enable both sides to get to know one another better, in order to improve day-to-day business management as well as dealing with the more general challenges posed by the European Union in a global context.

Indeed, both organisations - the ETUC youth committee and Yes for Europe - agreed that it was essential to undertake a joint initiative to deepen mutual understanding between the young social partners, and also to discuss topics of mutual interest.

The future trade union leaders on one side, and young business managers on the other, were able to share their perspectives and their points of view: essential activities for these young actors in the social dialogue.
