Euro-demonstration on the Services Directive : European trade unions mobilised in force
In a demonstration called by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), European trade unions were mobilised in force on the eve of the European Parliament’s vote on the first reading on the Services Directive.
50,000 workers from all over Europe made the journey to Strasbourg to demonstrate for more social Europe.
John Monks, General Secretary of the ETUC said, “the strong presence of demonstrators here today is a clear signal to European and national decision makers that trade unions are a political force to be reckoned with. We turned up in our droves two days before an important vote and we will be present at each stage of the development of this directive.”
