ETUC restates opposition to “Bolkestein” and welcomes progress on negotiations on amending the Services Directive
The ETUC Steering Committee today received a report on the negotiations between the PES and the EPP concerning the Services Directive.
The ETUC has consistently demanded withdrawal of, or fundamental changes to, the Bolkestein Directive - and will be demonstrating for seven key demands to be met when the Parliament debates the issue in Strasbourg next week.
The Steering Committee expressed its appreciation for the efforts made last night by negotiators of the key political groups in the European Parliament on a fundamental step change in the Bolkestein directive. It is too early to judge what the outcome of the vote will be next week but at this essential stage, the progress made is welcome.
The ETUC will be urging all political groups in the Parliament to continue along this path and for Europe to have quality services which meet the needs of all its people.
