Commenting the EP vote, Judith Kirton-Darling, ETUC Confederal Secretary, said “With this vote, a massive majority of Members of the European Parliament have recognised the need for European legal action to better anticipate and manage economic change. In the last three years, for every one job created, two were lost. In yet the Commission have not brought forward a proper strategy. For the European Trade Union, strengthening the legal framework of information and consultation for workers and their communities, ensuring training and education, and providing a framework of support measures must be part of this strategy. After a decade of hand-wringing, it is time for the Commission to act and propose legislation”.
